Welcome to the ACSB Supervision page

The ACSB position on supervision is outlined below, followed by a list of recommended supervisors.

The ACSB is committed to supporting ongoing practitioner learning and has developed supervision options and guidance to reflect this, with the intention of supporting practitioners beyond certification. As Somatic Sex Educators work in different ways, professional supervision and consultation options must reflect this, allowing practitioners to choose an option most suited to their practice.

Supervision is an essential aspect of professional practice and practitioner self-care. Point 10 of the The Code of Conduct for Certified Sexological Bodyworkers states: “CSBs seek the advice of colleagues, continuous professional development and ongoing supervision as a routine part of our practice and training”.

Supervision can support growth and development in so many ways, as well as providing the necessary space to explore ethical issues as they arise. This can include support with individual clients, deeper exploration of professional growth, seeing blind spots and getting a different perspective on aspects of personal and professional life.

While regular professional one-to-one supervision is recommended it can be expensive and can be effectively supplemented with regular group and/or peer supervision. Group supervision is being offered by some CSB professional associations (linked below). You can also create your own peer supervision groups for regular meetings.

The ACSB recomends a minimum of two supervision sessions per year as one-to-one, or supervisor-led group supervision. This is a low number with the intention of making supervision acheivable for all.

The Association strongly recommends supervision beyond the minimum and recognises that the case load of members (and thus the supervision requirement) varies considerably between members. The following table shows the recommended minimum frequency of supervision according to case load:

The Association recommends that members retain a record of supervision and professional development. In the event of a complaint or other proceeding against a member, or otherwise at the discretion of the current executive committee, the Association may request evidence of supervision and professional development.

Márcia Simão

Everything we create, creates us -  understanding the symbiotic relationship between the “I” and the “world” is central to Márcia’s professional practice. Through this understanding she seeks to enhance the human experience in all its forms. Leveraging a background in architecture, design, and business enterprise, Márcia (CSB, CSSE) honed her skills in envisioning spaces that transcend mere physicality.

Central to her work is the recognition of the profound role of erotic and sexual embodiment and education in shaping our interconnected self. It involves exploring and understanding the ways in which it intersects with all aspects of our lives, supporting integration of the most exiled aspects of ourselves and the embodiment of paradoxes.

Passionate about the intricacies of life's contradictions and dualities, Márcia supports clients see their “blind” spots, while infusing fresh perspectives with the introduction of novelty through curiosity.  In her supervision work, she invites practitioners to explore the depths of their connections—to themselves, to their clients, and to the ethical principles that underpin their professional responsibilities—in pursuit of a more ethical, effective, and enriching personal and professional experience.

Currently in the final stages of training as a Clinical Supervisor with the Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology, Márcia is delighted to be facilitating the Peer Group Supervision offered by the ACSB as a way to meet both professional and ethical needs within the field. Márcia's gentle approach extends beyond her professional practice; she hopes to infuse the realm of Sexological Bodywork and Somatic Sex Education with a nurturing ethical framework, fostering an environment of care and integrity for practitioners and clients alike. Robyn Dalzen:

I’m available to provide supervision to individuals who would like support around incorporating the Wheel of Consent in their practice. I’m co-founder of the School of Consent and faculty member teaching the Wheel of Consent to professionals. www.robyndalzen.com : : robyn@robyndalzen.com

Ellen Heed CSB, PhD, Mentor, Personal Coach

I care deeply about how we, as sex educators, serve our clients - and aspire to help by offering supervision to students and professionals. By connecting the dots between symptoms and sexuality, I do my best to contribute to the successful growth of somatic sex education and practice.

Having had the privilege of initiating thousands of students into the mysteries of human anatomy, I founded STREAM (Scar Tissue Remediation, Education, and Management) to train health professionals to become more transparent, confident, and competent when working with their client’s physical and emotional body, whether inside or out.

Decades of clinical experience means my particular expertise can be utilized best by your willingness to learn how four health domains (biochemistry, biomechanics, emotions, and scars) relate to the symptoms that affect human sexuality and function. The uncommon insights gained can untangle those nagging questions that keep you up at night.

Betty Martin:

I am the developer of the Wheel of Consent, so of course I bring that lens into our conversations. I'm also a former sex worker, so I have experience in two-way interactions and dealing with folks with a wide range of sexual proclivities and challenges. And I love "talking shop". My style is conversational. betty@bettymartin.org : : https://bettymartin.org

Christiane Pelmas:

I come to SSE through the doors of licensed therapy. My two areas of focus in supervision are 1) the development of embodied ethics and 2) the clinical tools required to provide evidence-based, soulful, heart-centered work with our clients. Supervision with me tends to be fairly rigorous because it’s my experience that our SSE training programs cannot possibly prepare us for the situations we will find ourselves in. But neither could a Masters-level training in counseling. We receive this training experientially and through supervision (both professional and peer). If this sounds like what you’re looking for, I look forward to hearing from you, at christianepelmas@gmail.com

Katie Spataro:

Katie offers supervision to somatic sex educators and sexological bodyworkers working with women and queer folks, individuals and relationships, and those seeking consultation around pelvic and genital dearmouring, embodied consent, trauma integration, and birth and pregnancy loss support. Rahi Chun:

I am delighted to support practitioners interested in understanding how to facilitate a safe space for genital dearmouring - drawing on the tantric, taoist, psycho-somatic, and "pleasure as medicine" approaches.  I teach genital dearmouring in live workshops, webinars, and online via The 3 Keys to Genital Dearmouring course.  I also enjoy supporting a deeper understanding of how the influences and somatic imprints from our developmental years affect our adult sexual behaviors, patterns, and experiences.  This stems from my work as a NeuroAffective Touch practitioner and background in developmental psychology.  Contact:  Rahi@SomaticSexualWholeness.com or www.SomaticSexualWholeness.com
